WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 10 – UNCANNY AVENGERS 1 RELEASE PARTY – Noon to 9PM

This Wednesday we will be holding a release party on New comics day) for UNCANNY AVENGERS 1 – the first of the Marvel Now! titles being released. Uncanny Avengers 1 is written by Rick Remender, with artwork by John Cassaday.

The first customers who purchase the book will receive a limited edition print and other goodies, and there will be other surprises and bonuses for those who try out the new book.

On top of that, it’s a busy Wednesday as we see the release of Batman 13 (the return of the Joker and the start of the 2012 “Death in the Family” storyline) and other gems such as the first Saga trade paperback collection.

ARTISTS ALLEY

To celebrate the event we will be hosting a mini-artists alley at the store with special guests such as Shane Kirshenblatt, Ty Templeton, Chris Yao, Rachael Wells, David Cutler, Marco Rudy and others!

This fully interactive installation will give you the opportunity to participate directly with the medium of the comic book. StripArt will remind people that comics were once drawings, illustrations, thought bubbles of exposition, paper, and panels of art and narrative.

With the assistance of artists, StripArt will give people the experience of making a comic book: of thinking about character and their visual representation; dialogue and characters; of narrative arcs and punchy anecdotes.

So, come bring a comic book to life. Artists draw content sourced from your imagination, continuing plot from panels created from other participants, to create a strip of collaborative comic art.

PRESENTED BY GUERILLA PRINTING, THE COMIC BOOK LOUNGE and LOUIE DIAZ, JR.

AS THE INSTALLATION WILL TAKE PLACE AT 587A COLLEGE STREET, THE COMIC BOOK LOUNGE + GALLERY WILL REMAIN OPEN FOR THE DURATION OF THE EVENT.

Congratulations to the students who participated in the latest installment of the Holmes Incorporated Anthology series!

To celebrate the completion of this summer’s Fit to Print course and the publication of Holmes Incorporated 3, the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop is throwing a release party.

Since the TCW is located at the back of 587A College, The Comic Book Lounge will be open for the duration of the event (around  10-11 pm)

Come on by and do some late night shopping and check out the latest issue of Holmes Incorporated.

This weekend, SEPTEMBER 8-9, the Little Italy business association is throwing another event – THE FIERA TARANTELLA FESTIVAL. What this means for us is that College Street will once again be blocked between Bathurst and Ossington – no public transit or vehicles will be allowed on College during the Festival. WE WILL REMAIN OPEN DURING THE FESTIVAL.

Yes, it is going to be a busy month for us here at the Comic Book Lounge, as we are preparing to go to not just one, but TWO major conventions over the next month and we’ll be co-sponsoring two in-store events.

AUGUST 18 – LOUNGE WITH A LEGEND: AN EVENING WITH PLAYBOY CARTOONIST DOUG SNEYD

7-10 PM at the Comic Book Lounge + Gallery

Co-sponsored with the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop and Iceberg Vodka.

$10 admission or free admission with purchase of the Art of Doug Sneyd.

Please note: the store will be open that evening until 10pm.

AUGUST 23-26 – FAN EXPO CANADA: METRO TORONTO CONVENTION CENTRE, SOUTH BUILDING

A Toronto Cartoonists Workshop event.

The Fit to Print students have produced another exciting volume in the Holmes, Inc. series.  Come by and check out the original art for issue 3 and meet the women and men behind this exciting project!

7-11 pm. The Lounge will remain open until 11pm.

SEPTEMBER 14-16 – MONTREAL COMIC-CON
Our first out of town show as the Lounge! We’ll have plenty of great hardcovers and trade paperbacks on sale, along with a selection of comics, prints, statues and toys for sale.

Also, we will be a CGC submission centre, we will be accepting Signature Series requests as well as regular submissions.

The 2012 Montreal ComicCon is also the host convention for the Joe Shuster Awards which will be presented Saturday, September 15th.

The Lounge will be open September 14-16.

Lounge with a Legend: An Evening with Playboy Cartoonist Doug Sneyd – Sat. August 18th 7-10

The Comic Book Lounge and the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop are proud to welcome legendary Playboy cartoonist Doug Sneyd for an in-store event on the evening of Saturday, August 18th. The event starts at 7pm.

Doug will be displaying some original pieces and preliminary art, as well as have a selection of limited edition prints including some of the ones he will be premiering at Fan Expo Canada the following weekend.

The Comic Book Lounge and the Toronto Cartoonists Workshop are honoured to debut a unique BLACK CANARY print at this event, done for this event by Mr. Sneyd. It will be available exclusively in store starting that night, and at booth 714 at Fan Expo Canada on August 23-26.

The evening will include a Q&A session with Mr. Sneyd, as he discusses his work and career as an illustrator.

This will be an adult event, alcoholic beverages will be served. Martinis will be prepared with Iceberg Vodka, the sponsor for these festivities. There will be finger foods and prepared hors d’oeuvres.

Admission is $10, but if you don’t already have THE ART OF DOUG SNEYD, anyone who purchases the book from the Comic Book Lounge gets in FREE.
